Herbs Statement \ News \ Home

British Pepper and Spice is aware of the common practice of adulteration of dried herbs (in particular sage and oregano from Turkey) for economic gain using a variety of other dried plant materials.

This practice, although not an immediate food safety issue, has a significant negative impact upon the functionality of the herb, as well as being illegal if not declared.

Understanding the prevalence of this practice, British Pepper and Spice only purchases pure herbs from fully audited and long standing trusted suppliers. Upon receipt at our Northampton facilities every delivery undergoes a full qualitative and quantitative assessment. This includes organoleptic assessments and microscopic analysis using techniques developed by our in-house experts. In addition the volatile oil content is quantified using a fully CLAS accredited method. Only when these tests have been satisfactorily completed are the herbs released for further processing and sale.

British Pepper and Spice can give categorical assurance that all of its herbs are pure and free from any form of adulteration.
