British Pepper and Spice is aware of intentional contamination/adulteration of ground cumin with peanut and almond protein which has led to a number of national product recalls in the USA and Canada. We are also aware that Bart Ingredients Company has issued a recall for batches of its Ground Cumin product believed to be contaminated by undeclared almond protein and that Morrisons has recalled its own brand Fajita Kits which is also believed to contain contaminated Cumin.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts and almonds run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they were to consume these products.
The ground cumin in the USA / Canada recall is believed to be of Indian origin supplied via Turkey.
British Pepper and Spice only purchases whole cumin and does so from a fully audited source in India. This material is further processed and most importantly ground at our state of the art facilities here in the UK.
We DO NOT purchase ANY ground cumin. We grind whole cumin only, in house in Northampton.
British Pepper and Spice are therefore able to assure all of its customers that:
All cumin purchased in India is in the whole form and ground here in the UK. All British Pepper supplied ground cumin is free of peanut and almond protein.
